Innovation is a capability that can be developed
At Formicio we believe that innovation is an organisational capability that can be developed. We also believe that innovation comes from people; that most people are inherently innovative and it is their environment that either stimulates or inhibits innovation. We know that institutional memory is very strong, and in the words of the British economist John Maynard Keynes;
“The real difficulty in changing the course of any enterprise lies not in developing new ideas, but in escaping from old ones”.
Innovation expertise at Formicio
Over the years the Formicio team has been at the forefront of innovation in business. Whether it is running one of the world’s leading technology laboratories, launching Internet businesses, pioneering innovative management practices or simply introducing organisations to new ideas, stimulating innovative thinking is one of our core capabilities.
True innovation requires a change of mindset
We believe that we are all creative and that individually and collectively we have an interest in making things better. Likewise, organisations generally have a desire to innovate, to try new things and improve the way things are done. But why is it that some organisations are better at innovating than others? Whilst the reasons may be many and complex the reality is that if people think they can be innovative they will. Being more innovative begins with a change of mindset, and it’s the role of leaders to create the context that allows this change of mindset.
How we help build innovation capability
We have the capability and experience to:
- Assess an organisation’s capacity to innovate.
- Shift mindsets to ones that foster innovation.
- Establish operating principles that create the necessary processes, governance and practices for innovation.
- Develop innovation leaders.
- Establish the necessary conditions for innovation success.
Our role can vary from seeding innovation ideas to establishing a culture for innovation.
