Experiential Learning with Formicio
When people are asked to describe their most powerful learning experience they rarely talk about their time at university, the conferences they have attended or the training courses they have taken. Most people refer to a time when they faced a really difficult situation, one that took them out of their comfort zone and stretched them intellectually and emotionally. To quote Confucius, the Chinese philosopher and reformer:
“I hear and I forget,
I see and I remember,
I do and I understand.”
The most powerful learning experiences occur when people find themselves in a new context, for example a new job or assignment, where they find that the competencies they have developed and used over many years fall short and new ones need to be developed quickly. It’s the experiences that the new context creates that lead to learning.
Our Experiential Learning services
Formicio delivers experiential learning for corporate leaders in three different ways:
- Learning Journeys – where colleagues from the same organisation focus on developing a target organisational capability or solving a specific problem through a set of shared learning experiences.
- Collaborative Explorations – where people from a number of organisations collaborate with peers on a specific issue of common interest.
- Proactive Mentoring – where individuals who have taken up a new role or assignment are helped to ‘know what they don’t know’ and learn from their new experiences.
